This year, the city of Delray Beach, is set to illuminate the night sky with the warm glow of tradition. On December 7th, 2023, from 5 to 7 P.M., the Amphitheatre at Old School Square will come alive with the annual Menorah Lighting celebration. This free event will feature live music, games, holiday snacks, crafts, and more. Located at 51 N Swinton Ave, this promises to be a joyous and festive occasion for residents and visitors alike. 

Hanukkah, also known as Chanukah, holds deep historical significance as it commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem during the Maccabean Revolt of the 2nd century BCE. This remarkable event is intricately tied to the miracle of the oil. According to tradition, despite having only a single day's supply, the sacred oil miraculously burned for eight consecutive days, symbolizing divine intervention and the resilience of the Jewish faith. 

Present day, the lighting of the menorah still holds deep significance for the Jewish community, marking the beginning of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights. Attendees of the Delray Beach celebration will witness the lighting of the menorah as symbol of resilience, hope, and triumph. The menorah itself, with its eight branches and central candle, is lit over the course of the next eight nights, each candle representing that miraculous oil that burned for eight days in the ancient Temple of Jerusalem.
