April is known for its beautiful spring weather and the start of the warmer summer weather for most. Luckily for us living in South Florida, April is just another beautiful month filled with warm temperatures and sunshine.

April is the fourth month of the Gregorian calendar, but that was not always the case. During the Julian Calendar, April was the fifth month and had 29 days prior to being part of the Julian Calendar. The 30th day was added by Julius Caesar during the Julian Calendar.

In the Southern Hemisphere, April is the seasonal equivalent to the fall month October.

The word April comes from the verb “aperire” which means to open. Its commonly believed that the word refers to the season and trees and flowers begin to open or bloom.

Those born in the month of April has a diamond as their birthstone and the birth flower is either a daisy or a sweet pea.

April has two Zodiac Signs, Aries until April 19th and Taurus which begins on April 20th.

Earth Day is celebrated every April 22nd and this year, National Arbor Day is celebrated on April 30th.

April’s Full Pink Moon will rise on Monday, April 26th, this type of full moon is one of two supermoons this year.
