A new Jack Nicklaus designed, 18-hole golf course is coming to the Avenir development on western Northlake Boulevard.

Palm Beach Gardens-based Nicklaus Design, founded more than a half-century ago by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus, has been tapped to design the 18-hole Signature Golf Course on the northwest portion of the 4,763-acre development.

According to the Palm Beach Post, the company also will design a 9-hole, par-3 short course and a state-of-the-art training and practice facility as part of the private Panther National Golf Club within the Avenir master-planned community.

The club also will include a Health & Lifestyle Club with premium dining, spa, athletic club and 10-acre Crystal Lagoon, and 459 luxury single-family homes, said Dominik Senn, Founder of Boca Raton-based Centaur US Holdings, the project’s developer.

The new Signature Course will join more than 300 others designed by Nicklaus’ company, including the newly renovated 18-hole course at the North Palm Beach Country Club, and the Champion Course at PGA National Resort and Spa, home of the Honda Classic.

Construction on the Avenir course is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2021, and will take approximately 18 months to complete.

Avenir is in the midst of the first phase of development. When complete in approximately 10-15 years, it will include 3,900 homes, roughly 2 million square feet of office space, 400,000 square feet of commercial space and 200,000 square feet of medical office space.

Plans also call for 300 hotel rooms, 115 acres for a park/civic area, 15 acres for a City Hall annex, 20 acres for agriculture and 2,407 acres for conservation.
