South Florida has a lot of fun things coming up in August, some of the events are in person, others are online. Here are some of the events you and your family can enjoy together next month.

NSU Art Museum in Fort Lauderdale presents Happy! — a new exhibition of contemporary works produced by artists who aim to engage the viewer emotionally. The exhibition is available to view online through Aug. 30 at nsuartmuseum.org. You can also subscribe to the lecture series on the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale’s YouTube channel that is open to everyone.

Classics for a Summer Evening: 7:30-8:30 p.m. Community Arts Program Virtual Summer Concert Series (CapCast) will livestream on Facebook with Scott Flavin and friends Summer Strings Quartet in beloved African American repertoire and other classical favorites on Aug. 6; and jazz for the Virtual Concert Series on Aug. 13 at CommunityArtsProgram.org. 305-448-7421, ext. 120.

Let’s Talk with Dr. Daniel Castellanos: 7-8 p.m. Aug. 6. United Way of Broward County’s Commission on Behavioral Health & Drug Prevention in collaboration with Broward Behavioral Health Coalition will host “Let’s Talk with Dr. Daniel Castellanos” as a virtual event. The Academy Goes Virtual: The Frank’s current exhibition “The Academy” is now going virtual. Guests can now enjoy an online 360-degree interactive tour of the exhibition. “The Academy” is on display virtually through Aug. 8. Visit The Frank Gallery in Pembroke Pines online at thefrankgallery.org. Visitors can also enjoy virtual workshops, lectures and programs at The Frank.

BrightStar Credit Union Back to School Drive: Through Aug. 21, Broward County’s largest back-to-school drive is going virtual and BrightStar Credit Union is one of this year’s participants. Contributions will help provide an 18-piece school supply kit to every student in 112 Title I elementary schools in the county. Before the pandemic, over 200,000 students could not afford lunch, let alone school supplies. Each day more families fall victim to business closures, reduced hours and layoffs. Food For The Poor to host ‘We Are One’ virtual event: This live-streamed charity event will be preceded by a silent auction, followed by the program, 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13 from Boca Raton Community Church. The goal is to raise funds to provide more food to families devastated by the pandemic. The online auction is Aug. 10-13. Sustainable Urban Food Production: Workshops to address food insecurity and urban agriculture start 1-4 p.m. Aug. 17 and continue each Monday through Sept. 28. The total cost for the program is $25 per registrant. Workshops will be conducted with virtual lectures, Zoom presentations and other formats presented by the Broward Extension of UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. Participants will gain a better understanding of social and environmental benefits of urban agriculture, including knowledge on diversified urban food production methods for vegetables and animals (e.g., bee, urban livestock). United Way of Broward County’s MISSION UNITED will host Women Veterans for a Virtual Happy Hour, 5:30–6:30 p.m. on the first Monday of every month through December. The events promote programs supporting U.S. military service members, veterans and their families by helping them acclimate to civilian life. Key focus areas include employment services, legal assistance, financial stability, education, health and housing support. A Zoom link will be provided after registration.
