Looking for a new South Florida hobby? How about flying? Becoming a pilot opens a world of recreation and travel opportunities and connects you to a unique, close-knit community of people.

Earning your pilot license only takes 40 hours. The Palm Beach Flight Training facility at the Palm Beach County Park Airport in Lantana is an FAA Part 141 Flight School, which means fewer hours of training to obtain your pilot’s license and a higher standard of excellence in training. The school is known to have the best instructors in the area, a large aircraft assortment for training and very high safety standards as skill and safety go hand-in-hand.

The school offers a 40-hour private pilot license course as well as pinch-hitter classes, designed specifically for the non-pilot who will be a frequent flyer in the right seat- say your spouse, and refresher courses for those who haven't flown in a while. There's even an island flight class, which covers departure and arrival procedures for various islands, as well as your return home, and you'll be introduced to all of the paperwork required for Customs and Immigration- perfect for traveling to the nearby Bahamas.

Most people will get their private pilot license to fly their own plane or a rental jet. During private pilot schooling you'll learn basic flight maneuvers and skills such as turns, climbs, descents, and stalls; takeoff, landing, and airport traffic pattern operations; flying by reference to instruments; planning flights to distant airports, and methods of en-route navigation; and academic areas such as weather, aircraft performance, aerodynamics and more.

If you're interested in flying but aren't totally sure, the Palm Beach Flight Training school has a "Discovery Flight" option so you can try it out and see if flying is something you want to do (you'll be convinced after this experience).
