MLK Day Celebrations in Palm Beach County

Thousands of Palm Beach County residents will honor Martin Luther King, Jr. today, January 18, 2022. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Baptist minister and social rights activist in the United States in the 1950s and 1960s. He was a leader of the American civil rights movement, encouraging equality. He organized peaceful protests as leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, including the March on Washington in 1963. Dr. King led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his death by assassination in 1968. 

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, multiple events are scheduled today.

Palm Beach Atlantic University:

Volunteers will clean up Coleman Park and the surrounding neighborhood Monday. They will also sort and pack toiletry kits and bagged lunches for homeless people and supplies for students in schools serving low-income families.

Boynton Beach:

The city is hosting a celebration in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Sara Sims Park. The event will be held outdoors and is free. There will be music, history, education, food trucks, and children's activities. It will be from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Boca Raton:

The city of Boca Raton will honor King with a day of free community events and celebrations, themed, “Engaging Our Youth to Follow the Dream." The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Lake Worth:

The annual MLK Interfaith Breakfast will be held at the Bryant Park Amphitheater and will become a brunch at 11 a.m. The amphitheater is located at the Intracoastal Waterway, just south of the Lake Worth Bridge.

The program will feature school-aged performers, along with music and inspiration from interfaith leaders.

At 5 p.m., near the steps of City Hall, a civil rights sings-along with Mel & Vinnie will take place, followed by the 28th annual Candlelight March through downtown Lake Worth. The procession will end at the MLK “Ball” Memorial in the Cultural Plaza, M Street, and Lake Avenue. A brief program will be held there to recognize the accomplishments and legacy of King.

Unvaccinated people are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.

St. Lucie County:

The public is welcome to enjoy food, entertainment, and more. The event kicks off with “March Through the Park."

Schedule for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Government Offices – Federal, state, county, and municipal offices will be closed.

Schools – Public schools, colleges, and universities will be closed.

Libraries – All county libraries will be closed.

Mail – There will be no regular mail delivery.

Banks, stock markets, and post offices – All will be closed.

Palm Tran & Tri-Rail will run its regular schedule.

Garbage pick-up – Unincorporated Palm Beach County will run regular routes.

Grocery stores and malls will be open.
