In early 2020, the Martin County Golf Course began renovations to the course and a name change. The new course is now called “Sailfish Sands” and the new course is going to be bolder, innovative, and more unique, nothing like any other course in Martin County.

Earlier this week, the Martin County Parks and Recreation Director announced that he went before the County Commission to update them on the progress of the massive project and to ask for additional funding. The director and course asked for $3 million dollars more which will bring the complete renovation cost to around $8 million dollars and the county approved the changes during the meeting. The county commissioners believe that the new high-end, modern facility will be a huge benefit to the community and county.

The golf course is expected to be completely renovated in three phases. The county has already completed the first phase which included a reversible 9-hole course with family and kid-friendly tees, a 13-acre driving range with glow in the dark targets and balls, two chipping and putting greens, new concrete pathways, and restrooms.

The second phase which is set to begin soon will include new golf carts, parking lot improvements, Pro-Shop renovations, cart path improvements, landscaping improvements, ball tracking technology, new drainage and irrigation, and much more. The third and final phase will include construction of a new clubhouse with a restaurant, bar and hitting bays, improvements to the 18-hole course, new signage, and additional landscaping.

The director is hoping to open the first phase of the course to the public in January 2021. Sailfish Sands is located at 2000 SE St. Lucie Blvd in Stuart.
