Mathews Brewing Co. was opened in 2018 by David Mathews, a 55-year-old West Palm Beach local who decided to follow his dream of opening a brewery. Mathews is a USF graduate with a degree in engineering and worked in the field full-time while also spending 23 years brewing beer out of his garage at his home in Boynton Beach and then in West Palm Beach for the past 10 years.
He says his new state-of-the-art brewery is a dream come true. It has an open concept so you can see the operations that'd normally be behind the scenes. The huge brewing tanks are in clear view from the modern industrial-style taproom. There's a trendy outdoor patio with an earthy theme, several tables, a beer garden, picnic tables near the outdoor stage, and games like cornhole and connect four. The patio is also dog-friendly! David Mathews loves dogs and designed his logo in remembrance of Dakota, his 15-year-old Jack Russel. Even the door handles to the brewery are shaped like dog bones. Friday through Sunday evenings listens to live music from talented local artists. Sundays are "Reggae Sundays" and attract a nice crowd.
Mathews has several IPAs, Stouts, Pale Ales, American Pale Ales, Porters, and hybrids. There are also beers offered the English way- without CO2, which tastes much richer. You can also take your favorite beer to-go in a fresh 8-ounce can. The "Florida Hop Juice” is one of the highest-rated beers from Mathews as well as the "PB and Jealous,” a hybrid that tastes just like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It’s brewed with real roasted peanuts and berries. There’s also the "Sweet Emotion," another sweet favorite that tastes like cream soda. If you like darker beer try the “Heavy Metal,” a double IPA that's 8.4 alcohol by volume.
