Honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Palm Beach County

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day January 18, 2021. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Baptist minister and social rights activist in the United States in the 1950s and ’60s. He was a leader of the American civil rights movement. He organized several peaceful protests as leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, including the March on Washington in 1963. Dr. King led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his death by assassination in 1968. 

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day multiple events are scheduled in Palm Beach County for later this afternoon and evening.

Lake Worth:

Candlelight March at City Hall at 5 p.m.  The 27th annual Candlelight March, 4:30 p.m., The public will gather near the steps of Lake Worth City Hall, 7 N. Dixie Highway, and march through downtown Lake Worth. The procession will terminate at the MLK “Ball” Memorial in the Cultural Plaza, M Street and Lake Avenue. A brief commemorative program will be held there recognizing the accomplishments and unfinished business of Dr. King’s legacy.

 MLK Commemoration at Cultural Plaza at 5:30 p.m.

 MLK Fellowship Dinner at St Andrews Episcopal from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

South Florida Fair:

Celebration at the fairgrounds beginning at 3 p.m.at the Community stage.

Virtual Lecture:

While many places will be operating as usual, others will be closed in observance of the holiday. The following is a list of open and closed business operations in Palm Beach County this Martin Luther King Day 2021.

Schedule for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

– Public schools, colleges, universities will be closed.

– All county libraries will be closed.

– There will be no regular mail delivery.

– All will be closed.
