Palm Beach County students will get a reduced summer break this year, with the new school year starting August 10, 2021.  Palm Beach County residents need to be diligent of kids on the sidewalks and crossing streets to catch the bus.

The Palm Beach County School Board approved the calendar this past Wednesday, despite concerns that it cut the summer break from the traditional 10 weeks to seven. The current school year is ending June 18, three weeks later than normal, after the school district delayed the start of the school year due to COVID-19.

Academic performance has tumbled this past school year.  It has been a tremendous challenge for the district to educate students at home and on campus. The statistics of F’s on report cards have tripled. Pupils are about six months further behind schedule in math than in typical years.   Data shows that minority students been impacted the most.  This data is reflected across the nation with students performing below normal standards because of the pandemic.

Principals from elementary schools through high schools informed the Palm Beach County School Board members that they could do with the early start to help students catch up and get in as much education as possible before state testing in the spring.

Facial coverings for students and staff would be strongly encouraged but not mandatory, that decision was based on the Governor's Executive Order prohibiting our School District from enforcing a student facial covering requirement.
