In recognition of their service and sacrifice, all veterans of the United States Armed Forces will be granted free admission to all national parks on Veterans Day, November 11th. This annual tradition allows veterans and their families to enjoy the beauty and wonder of our nation's natural treasures without the added cost of entrance fees.
Here in Florida, we are fortunate to have three national parks: Biscayne National Park, Everglades National Park, and Dry Tortugas National Park. These parks offer a variety of activities and experiences, from exploring lush forests and wetlands to snorkeling in crystal-clear waters and learning about the history of our state.
Biscayne National Park
Located just south of Miami, Biscayne National Park is a haven for marine life and outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors can take a boat tour to explore the park's islands, go hiking or biking on one of the trails, or simply relax on the beach and enjoy the sun and sand.
Everglades National Park
The Everglades is the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States, and it is home to a variety of unique plants and animals, including alligators, snakes, and panthers. Visitors can take an airboat tour to see the wildlife up close, go canoeing or kayaking through the waterways, or bike or hike through the trails.
Dry Tortugas National Park
Dry Tortugas National Park is a remote island group located about 70 miles west of Key West. The park is home to Fort Jefferson, and it is a popular spot for snorkeling and scuba diving.
Additional Information
Veterans can obtain a free pass for Veterans Day at any national park entrance station. They will need to show a valid military ID or VA disability card. The free pass is valid for one vehicle and all passengers.
In addition to Veterans Day, there are five other entrance fee-free days at national parks to look forward to heading into 2024:
- January 16th: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
- April 22nd: First Day of National Park Week
- August 4th: Great American Outdoors Day
- September 23rd: National Public Lands Day
