Just Mortgages received 50 applications to join its self-employed division in the second quarter of the year, up 25% on the previous three months.

The brokerage says its recruits “are largely made up of existing self-employed brokers, looking to make the move from more corporate structures and organisations”.

It adds that these applicants include “a number of employed brokers who are looking for an opportunity to start and run their own businesses”.

In the first quarter, the network received 40 applications to join its self-employed division.

The brokerage has over 650 brokers across the country, who work on an employed or self-employed basis.

Just Mortgages head of mortgages and protection Ben Allkins says: “Recruitment is without question one of the biggest issues facing the market, especially given the conditions we have seen and the challenges in the wider economy.”

“In addition to day-to-day support with sales, marketing and compliance, brokers are able to access ongoing training and support.

“This includes access to a wealth of training sessions and hundreds of online modules, as well as further licences to provide commercial advice, business protection and equity release.”
