Nationwide has hired Damian Thompson as director of landlord, working at the mutual’s The Mortgage Works business.
Thompson joins the broker-only buy-to-let lender from Aldermore Bank, where he worked for just under five-and-a-half-years, leaving as group managing director retail finance.
In a more than 20-year career, Thompson also worked at Principality Building Society for just under eight years, leaving as director of distribution in 2016.
Nationwide says Thompson is responsible for looking after the society’s landlord offering, including its specialist BTL lender.
The Mortgage Works offers a range of BTL products, including let-to-buy and houses in multiple occupation to first-time and portfolio landlords as well as limited companies.
Thompson will work alongside the firm’s director of home Henry Jordan, who is responsible for all of the society’s residential mortgages, and Ian Andrew, the mutual’s director of intermediary relationships.
Thompson reports to director of mortgages and financial wellbeing, Rachael Sinclair.
He says: “Having worked in building societies previously, I understand the huge importance of the mutual sector and the role it plays within the wider financial services industry.
“The Mortgage Works is one of the leading BTL lenders and I’m really looking forward to driving it forward to ensure we develop our product range and further increase our support to landlords up and down the country.”
Sinclair adds: “His [Thompson’s] breadth of experience across the mortgage market and understanding of the mutual sector will be invaluable and I’m really looking forward to working with him as we look to further develop our landlord and BTL offering through The Mortgage Works.”
