Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician, said that "walking is a man's best medicine." If you are looking to lose weight for your health, then walking may just be the prescription for you. Briskly walking three miles a day will yield weight loss at a safe rate if you also maintain a healthy diet. Palm Beach County has parks with walking trails. It would be possible to walk a different walking path every day of the week.

Wakodahatchee Wetlands are in Delray Beach at 13270 Jog Road. Wakodahatchee features a three-quarter mile that crosses between open water pond areas and islands. The boardwalk has explanatory signs and gazebos with benches along the way. Over 178 bird species have been identified there, along with turtles, alligators, rabbits, fish, frogs, and raccoons.

Palm Beach Lake Trail in Palm Beach is a bike and walking path that follows the intercoastal waterway in front of mansions and past glorious trees. The path is paved and free of traffic.

Peaceful Waters Sanctuary is in Wellington, and it is a gem. You can walk on a boardwalk that goes through the middle of the park; or you can walk on the trail that surrounds the park: both ways are a one-mile walk.

Riverbend Park is off Indiantown Road in Jupiter. There are ten miles of walking trails. Stroll along the Wild and Scenic Loxahatchee River, visit the Cracker Farmstead, and picnic in the shade under a Seminole chickee.
