Southeast Florida outdoor activity enthusiasts can enjoy a tax-free shopping week.  Florida’s tax-free “Freedom Week” event is July 1 – July 7, 2021.  Eligible outdoor recreation items and admission to eligible cultural and sporting events are exempt from Florida state sales tax.  You will save at 6 percent on qualifying purchases.

As the state reopens, residents are being encouraged in various ways to help kick Florida’s economy back into high gear. The Governor has “created Freedom Week as part of that encouragement, and also as a way to help give a leg up to its arts, live entertainment, culture, sports and hobby industries — some of the hardest hit during the COVID-19 pandemic.” 

For some items, such as sunglasses, a portion of the purchase price is exempt from sales tax. For sunglasses, up to $100 of the total price is exempt from sales tax.  Information is on Florida Department of Revenue website.  Florida’s tax-free Freedom Week event is July 1 – July 7. Examples of items, sporting events and prices exempt from Florida State sales tax include: 

$15 - sunscreen and insect repellent

$30 - sports drink and water bottles

$50 - portable hammocks

$200 – tents

$250 - bicycles

$300 - paddleboards

$300 - surf boards

$500 - kayaks
