HCA Florida JFK Hospital is proud to host Crush the Crisis Opioid Take Back Day to align with the DEA's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. HCA Florida is one of the larger hospital organizations in Southeast Florida. JFK Medical Center is participating in the takeback event.
The opioid epidemic also referred to as the opioid crisis, is the rapid increase in the overuse, misuse/abuse, and overdose deaths attributed either in part or in whole to the class of drugs opiates/opioids since the 1990s. It includes the significant medical, social, psychological, and economic consequences of the medical, non-medical, and recreational abuse of these medications
Crush the Crisis events aim to educate our communities on the risk of opioid misuse while partnering with local law enforcement to provide a safe and anonymous way to dispose of medications that may be left over from previous procedures or other medical visits. Opioid misuse is a national crisis, and, in many cases, opioid overdoses are the result of individuals accessing and misusing unused prescription opioids from the homes of family and friends.
The focus of the event is to collect tablets, capsules, and patches of opioids. Act by turning in your unused and expired medication for safe disposal.
