Events at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center This Weekend

The sea turtle research and rehabilitation center have a list of events for the public to enjoy this weekend. Head to the Loggerhead Marinelife Center this Friday through Sunday for a day of fun and get a change to visit with the sea turtles.

Friday, February Events at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center

Public Guided Tours: 12 pm and 2 pm

The Public Guided Tours are offered a few times a day and attendees get an up-close look at the outdoor sea turtle hospital and get to see the sea turtles housed at the center. The cost is $10 dollars for adults and $5 dollars for children under 8 years old. All are welcomed to attend. The tour lasts approximately an hour and registration is required prior to the tour to reserve your space.

Saturday, February 13th Events at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center

Self-Guided Beach Clean Up: 8:30 am to 11:30 am

The Beach Cleanup is every Saturday morning beginning at 8:30 am to 11:30 am. All are welcomed to help and participate to keep out local beaches and ocean clean for sea turtles and other marine life. Volunteers who wish to participate are asked to stop by Marine Debris Sorting Station on the back deck of the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach to pick up their cleanup supplies. Once supplies picked up, volunteers can make their way down to the beach to start the cleanup. When finished, bring the bag of debris back to the Sorting Station and pick up a free t-shirt as a Thank You gift for helping clean up the beach.

Kids Fishing Program: 9:45 am to 12 pm

On Saturday mornings, the center hosts a Kids Fishing Program aimed for children ages 8 through 12. Those who wish to participate in the Fishing Program will learn the techniques and tricks to fishing from the Juno Beach Pier. The program will teach and explain the concepts of fishing, casting, fish handling, knot tying, and the proper catch and release techniques.  The program will also include information on how to be ethical anglers and reduce their impact on marine life. The fish caught during the day will always be released. All fishing equipment and bait will be provided. Advanced registration is required to reserve a spot due to limited space.

Sunday, February 14th Events at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center

Hammock Hike: 10 am

The Hammock Hike consists of an entirely outdoor excursion into the coastal hammock habitat near the sea turtle research and rehabilitation center. The program will cover and discuss the importance of these coastal ecosystems, explain and identify plants and animals, and the hike will end with an incredible view of the Atlantic Ocean. The hike is led by one of the Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s experienced biologists.
