The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County is hosting Family Saturdays centering on Fiber Art. The first fiber art event will be Saturday, February 6, 2021.  The “Cultural Council Project Space Center” is located at 11 South “L” Street, in Lake Worth.  The Cultural Council is in partnership with: Kianga Jinaki, Artist/Owner of Kianga Art. The Cultural Council is committed to supporting the cultural community during this unique time by providing resources for artists and organizations.

Kianga Jinaki, a respected fiber artist, will curate an experience for the entire family to enjoy. With mixed-media assemblages using traditional and contemporary African textiles, the artwork created by each participant will be thematic and based on the African and African American cultural and historical experiences.  For more information on Kianga Art please contact: 5615039504/[email protected].

Fiber art refers to fine art whose material consists of natural or synthetic fiber and other elements, such as fabric or yarn. It focuses on the materials and on the labor-intensive work on the part of the artist as part of the works' significance.  Fiber art highlights aesthetic value over utility.

This family event is for all ages to enjoy, and as previously mentioned, will be held in the Council’s Project Space, directly behind the building on “L” Street.  It is recommend bringing a towel or mat for your family to sit on.  For the safety of all participants, facial coverings and social distancing will be required for the entirety of the event.
