Today, September 22nd is the first official day of Fall. The Autumnal Equinox or also called the September Equinox or Fall Equinox arrives today when Fall begins in the Northern Hemisphere and Spring begins in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Fall Equinox official begins today, September 22nd at 9:31 am, the equinox occurs at the same moment worldwide.  The Autumnal Equinox is the astronomical start of the fall season. The word equinox comes from the Latin word aequus meaning “equal” and nox meaning “night”. On this day, day and night are roughly equal in length but starting tomorrow the night will be longer than the day.

After the Autumnal Equinox, the sun begins to rise later, and the sun begins to set earlier. This will end with the December Solstice on December 21st, when the days will start to become longer and the nights shorter.

For Floridians, Fall brings slightly cooler temperatures with a break in the summer heat and humidity. The average temperatures in the fall in Florida range from the upper 70’s to the low 80’s that make it perfect to sit out at the beach and enjoy the sunshine.
