Here are 3 buyer mindsets that will help you determine your next steps:

1) A little reflection can help. Consider these three questions:

  • If you bought a home today, can you imagine yourself having peace of mind?
  • Would you have financial peace?
  • And would you be excited?

If you can't honestly answer "yes" to all three questions, then maybe now isn't the right time for you to buy. But if you can answer yes to all three, the next two mindsets can help you move forward with confidence.

2) Remember, buying a home is a long-term investment. If you're planning to own your home for at least a few years, you're likely to ride out any short-term market corrections. Market conditions suggest Dane County home supply will remain low for the foreseeable future, which should help to maintain your home's value over the long run.

3) Live within your means. If you decide to buy a home this year, choose one that will allow you to live comfortably within your budget. Maybe for you this means controlling your monthly costs by buying a home that checks most of your boxes, but not all of them. Growing your savings and building your financial cushion will help you feel more secure in a time of uncertainty.
