Former Natwest director Miguel Sard will be joining Shawbrook group later this summer in the role of chief banking officer retail.

This new role will bring together consumer lending, savings and specialist mortgage propositions from across Shawbrook’s existing consumer franchise and the group’s Retail Mortgage Brands: The Mortgage Lender and Bluestone Mortgages.

Shawbrook insists it will continue to operate and leverage the strengths of its three distinct brands, while taking advantage of the opportunities to share technology, capabilities and knowledge within the combined business.

Commenting on the appointment a company spokesperson said: “With Miguel leading a combined Retail business here at Shawbrook, we have the opportunity to deliver the best of what a specialist bank can provide with the scale and reach of a major consumer organisation.”

Sard resigned as NatWest managing director home buying and ownership back in May this year after four years at the lender.

Prior to that, he worked at Santander for 13 years in a number of posts, leaving as managing director for intermediaries.
