Have You Ever Had a "Contraband Pizza Pie?"

In the recent weeks, we have been driving on Galveston and noticing a random sign over The Dough Nut shop. The sign only seemed to appear after The Dough Nut had closed, so we simply had to know more. Walking by, the delectable smell of pizza filled the air and our curiosity grew even more. The pop up sign read "Fratelli" and we knew we had a new underground pizza place to try.

Fratelli Pies features artisan Neapolitan black market pies made with simple ingredients and in-house cured & smoked meats. The simplicity of these pies only enhances the flavors and makes the pizza a delight to the taste buds. Ordering these pizzas was very simple. We simply found their webpage or Facebook page, clicked the order button, selected what we wanted, paid online, and it was ready exactly when we wanted for pickup. I hear they will deliver too!

We tried three unique pies from Fratelli: The Smoking Gun, The Tiki, and the Diavola. Each pizza had very unique flavors, but all were cooked to perfection and delicious to the very last bite. The Smoking Gun featured house smoked pulled pork, sausage & chicken, pickled Peppadew peppers, San Marzano tomato sauce, and mozzarella house cheese mix. The house smoked pulled pork was the winner of the show for this pie. But every element on this pizza was balanced and it had the perfect combination of savory and spice.

The next pizza we tried was The Tiki. This pizza was my personal favorite as I love my Hawaiian style pizza, but this one took it to a new level. Featuring house cured ham, pineapple, spicy pickled jalapeño, San Marzano sauce, mozzarella house cheese mix, this pizza was a mouth watering delight. A second slice had to happen with this one.

The final pizza was the Diavola, a Pizza pie with spicy San Marzano tomato sauce, mozzarella house cheese mix, salami, house pepperoni, and pickled Peppadew peppers. This pizza took a more traditional type of pizza and stepped it up to a whole other level.

Our final thoughts on Fratelli Pies? We have a new pizza spot in our top 3 pizza joints in Bend, Oregon. If you have not had the opportunity to try this underground pizza stop yet, be sure to put it on the list for your next pizza night!
