The Cambridge Building Society has appointed Carly Nutkins as its new head of lending.

Nutkins joins from small business lender Allica Bank where she worked as its commercial mortgage operations manager.

At Allica, the mutual says she “developed its lending team from the ground up”.

Nutkins took up her post in March and has led the building society’s Consumer Duty practises compliance ahead of the launch of the guidelines in July.

It adds that she is  also“tasked with making mortgage applications at the Cambridge easier to ensure a smoother lending process for its customers, intermediaries, and brokers”.

Nutkins has over 15 years of banking experience, beginning her career as a cashier at Barclays in 2008 before being promoted to its personal finance team. She also worked for Redwood Bank before joining Allica.

Cambridge Building Society chief executive, Peter Burrows says: “She [Nutkins] brings a unique combination of strong financial leadership in the mortgage market with a community-first attitude.”

Nutkins adds: “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to come to The Cambridge to lead the Lending team and streamline its processes to make it easier for more people to have a home.”

In February, the business also promoted Tom Llewelyn to company secretary and head of governance from operational resilience manager and hired Fred Holland as its new head of operational risk.
