Keystone Property Finance has pledged to help landlords who want to house Ukrainian refugees after concerns were raised that landlords could have difficulties if they registered for the initiative.

The specialist buy-to-let (BTL) lender said it would “do all that it can” to ensure landlords who signed up to the government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme suffered “no negative knock-on effects”.

There have been growing concerns that landlords who offer to house a refugee fleeing Ukraine’s conflict with Russia may run into complications if they sign up without contacting their mortgage and insurance providers.

These include issues such as whether a mortgage allows additional people to live in the property, while rental properties usually come with Assured Shorthold Tenancy agreements stating who the tenants are.

Keystone managing director Elise Coole says her firm wanted to make it as easy as possible for landlords to sign up.

“That’s why we are urging brokers who have landlord clients who wish to sign up to call us, so we can make sure the process is as smooth as it possible can be,” she says.

The government is offering landlords or tenants who sponsor a Ukrainian refugee £350 a month for 12 months.

More than 100,000 Brits have offered accommodation to Ukrainian refugees since the scheme launched on 14 March.
