Nilesh (Neil) Sachdev has been appointed the new chairman of HM Land Registry.

He replaced Michael Mire, who was given the role in 2016.

Sachdev serves as chairman for several other firms and institutions, including as that of the East West Railway Company and the Defence Infrastructure Organisation Board, as well as being a non-executive director of Network Rail Property.

He also works as chairman for the Energy Saving Trust, Exclusive Contract Services, and the Eggfree Cake Busy.

Business minster Lord Callanan says: “I am pleased to announce [Neil] Sachdev as the next chairman of HM Land Registry.

“[He] will bring strong leadership experience from both the private and public sectors to support HM Land Registry’s plans to modernise the property market, improve customer service, and reduce the backlog for registering properties.

“I would also like to thank Michael Mire for his work over the last six years as the chairman of HM Land Registry and wish him every success for the future.”

And Sachdev adds: “I greatly look forward to leading the board in delivering its ambitious new strategy to transform the process of land registration in England and Wales and enabling a world-leading property market with people at the heart of it.”

Yesterday, 1 September, HM Land Registry announced its new strategy, and three-year business plan, which aims to speed up digital adoption of its services and cut its backlog.
