Madison real estate, the stock market, and coronavirus

How are coronavirus and the stock market impacting the Madison area real estate market?

So far the month of March has been a very strong month for our clients. Nine of our clients have received accepted offers during the first twelve days of the month, and one of our clients received 19 offers on their listing (on March 10th). We're actively assisting many people who are excited to buy their next home. We're also actively listing new properties and our listings are receiving great traffic.

What is likely to happen to the market in the months ahead?

Although it's too soon to tell exactly how the real estate market will evolve in the coming months, we fully expect the months of March, April, May and June to be the busiest months for real estate in 2020. We also believe some people will either choose to delay or be forced to delay their plans to buy. For some buyers, this will be a time of opportunity, as it will become easier to find and buy the right property in Madison's highly competitive market. For many reasons inventory will continue to be in short supply, which should give property owners some peace of mind during uncertain times. Interest rates will also remain low, which will keep many buyers engaged with the market. Regardless of what happens over the short-term, Madison and Dane County will remain solid places to own real estate for the long-term. For more on this topic, check out this article from our blog.
