Home to crystal clear beaches, a host of employment opportunities and the humble meat pie, Australia is one of the most sought-after countries to live in in the world – and for good reason. But planting roots next to Sydney’s Opera House is a very different experience to playing house in the coffee haven that is Melbourne. So, which capital city should you live in based on your personality?

My ideal weather forecast would be:

One consistent with the season

Warm – all year ’round please

Relatively dry, but I love a good frost during winter

As cold as possible without snowing

Keep it interesting. Three seasons in a day!

Lovely and warm

Hot during summer, mild during winter

My favourite way to navigate a city would be by:

I’m not picky

I hate driving, so whatever public transport is available

Walking or Cycling

An average weekend for me looks like:

A wine tasting tour

Tanning on the beach

Getting a feel for history

Discovering an untouched natural gorge

Exploring an art gallery

Attending the footy or other sporting event

A laid-back drink with my nearest and dearest

Dressing up and sipping on champagne taking in the beauty of the city

Anything affordable

An apartment or flat

Surrounded by nature

In a kid-friendly suburb

In the thick of award-winning restaurants

In the suburbs, but still 30-40 minutes from the CBD

Far, far out in the ’burbs or a mansion to spend my life’s savings on

On a week-to-week basis, my attitude towards cost of living is:

I like to keep my weekly spend reasonable

I need somewhere super affordable to buy and live

I want to make a salary that lets me easily meet my loan repayments

I have no problem spending big for the right city

As long as a property is affordable, I don’t mind paying a bit extra for services

I don’t think too much about cost of living

I prefer a more isolated existence, so I’m happy to spend a bit extra on property and groceries

When faced with traffic, I tend to:

Look at the ceiling of the car and wonder ‘why me’

Find it easy to manage, given my good sense of direction

Get absolutely irate

I can manage as long as the commute time isn’t too long

I don’t do traffic. I prefer a slow and steady network

Catch public transport instead

As long as it doesn’t happen too often, I’m pretty laid back

Heavy traffic doesn’t bother me at all
