Two-thirds of homeowners say they understand retrofit benefits: Hodge | Mortgage Strategy

Almost two-thirds, or 62%, of UK householders claim to have a good understanding of the energy efficiency benefits of retrofitting their home, reveals a poll by Hodge.  

The study by the bank finds that 42% of homeowners rate retrofitting their property as a significant priority, with 52% adding that they are worried about the climate crisis.  

The report comes as UK households began receiving £400 off their energy bills in October, with the discount made in six instalments to help families throughout the winter, in a scheme administered by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy.  

Poorer British households will receive additional help.  

The lender’s study also asked participants how they felt about United Nation’s 17 social development goals, which are aspirations established in 2015 to fight poverty, end hunger, boost education and promote responsible consumption and production by 2030.   

It found that half of those asked did not know what these goals were.   

For those that did, the three most important UN social development goals were: clean water, affordable and clean energy and good health and wellbeing.  

Hodge business development director Emma Graham says: “It’s important in the middle of the energy crisis to note the many different pressures homeowners in the UK clearly feel exposed to at the moment, not just regarding the cost of energy, but what it is doing to the planet too.  

“Many of us are aware of the targets now set within the UK and across the globe in reducing our carbon footprint, and our research shows that UK householders are taking the matter seriously and ultimately have a lot to think about when it comes to domestic energy.”  

“It’s great to see so many people in the UK actively taking on board what we are being told needs to happen globally in terms of social development goals, in order for the climate crisis to improve.”  

“So, it’s increasingly important intermediaries and those working in the financial sector continue to do their bit to help their clients through what continues to be a challenging time in so many different ways.”  

The Hodge poll interviewed 2,000 UK adults.
