Surveyors report buoyant housing market despite lockdown | Mortgage Strategy

The housing market showed no sign of slowing in October and November, despite increased lockdown measures, according to new business data from SDL Surveying.

Its figures show October remained its ‘busiest month ever’, in terms of surveys and valuations undertaken and revenue generated.  It said figures to date for November indicated this month was likely to follow the same pattern.

Looking further ahead, the company said lender clients have indicated “significant targets” for 2021. As a result SDL Surveying said it was continuing to recruit surveyors, both internally and to its network in order to grow capacity and take advantage of these higher business volumes.

SDL Surveying managing director Simon Jackson says: “Despite increased restrictions across the UK, and the introduction of a second lockdown in England, business volumes and activity levels in the housing market show no signs of slowing.”

Business was being driven by the stamp duty holiday, he says, with consumers wanting housing transactions to continue as normal with a view to sales completing ahead of the March deadline.

Jackson adds: “We continue to conduct the vast majority of our work through physical valuations; however we are also carrying out desktop valuations, particularly for consumers who are self-isolating and cannot have a surveyor entering their home.”
