What do Millennials have in common with members of the Silent Generation, a group of older adults from the ages of 74 to 94? They feel much the same way about buying and owning a home, according to the latest research from the National Association of REALTORS.
According to the association’s 2020 Home Buyer and Seller Generational Trends report, both Millennials and members of the Silent Generation list buying a home close to friends and family as a high priority. In fact, 53 percent of homebuyers from the ages of 22 to 29 and an equal percentage of buyers from the ages of 74 to 94 feel this way, according to the report.
In another similarity, the members of both age groups who bought new homes said they were most inspired to buy new construction because of the amenities that a newly built home provides.
The association also found that both older and younger buyers began their search for a new home by viewing properties online. The difference? Buyers 74 and older contacted a REALTOR or broker nearly as often as they looked online, according to the association.
Both younger and older buyers were also the most likely to seek the advice of friends or relatives when searching for a home.
Another interesting finding from the Generational Trends report? Buyers of all age groups said that they preferred working with a REALTOR during the search for a new home. This isn’t surprising: A REALTOR can help you find the right home for you and your family at the right price. This professional can tell you when a home is priced right for your market or when its price tag is too high.
A REALTOR can also help you navigate the often emotion process of negotiating the right price for a home. So when you’re ready to begin your next home search? Make sure to work with a REALTOR who knows your Chicago neighborhood.
