Florida is nearing the end of April with fewer new cases of coronavirus — and a lower weekly number of deaths.

The total number of Florida deaths, 1,088, the state reported Monday is 299 more than the state reported on April 20. In the previous week, 319 people died.

The increase in the total number of cases is also smaller in the last week than in the week before. The state reported 32,138 coronavirus cases as of Monday — 5,478 higher than it had on April 20. In the previous week, the number of cases increased by 6,059.

Similar trends are taking place in South Florida.

Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties had a total of 632 deaths as of Monday. That’s an increase of 176 from a week earlier. Over the previous week, the region’s deaths increased by 195.

The number of South Florida cases on Monday, 19,127, is 3,420 higher than on April 20. In the prior week, the number of cases in the region grew by 3,670.

South Florida is the hardest hit region in the state. In Miami-Dade County, the 302 people who have died account for 28% of the state’s total. As of Monday, the state reported 11,570 infections in Miami-Dade County.

The state reported Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties accounted for 19,127 cases as of Monday, an increase of 350 over the previous 24 hours. The 632 deaths in the three counties is an increase of 6 from the day before.

Palm Beach County adds two new walk-up test sites

The Health Care District of Palm Beach County announced Monday evening that two new walk-up coronavirus test sites would begin taking appointments Tuesday, April 28. The sites will be at C.L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics at 1150 45th Street in West Palm Beach and 411 West Indiantown Road in Jupiter. Residents are asked to call 561-642-10000. Testing will begin Wednesday in West Palm Beach and Thursday in Jupiter.
