Retirement specialist Just Group has partnered with Vibrant to offer lifetime mortgage customers free energy performance certificates. 

The deal will see the retirement specialist and the property services company provide the service across the Just For You Lifetime Mortgage range, including medically underwritten products. 

Energy performance certificates rate how energy efficient a building is, from A, very efficient, to G, inefficient. 

They also highlight energy efficiency improvements that could be made, how much they will cost, and how much money could be saved by homeowners. 

Just Group retail propositions director Sarah Morris-Simpson says: “The UK has the oldest housing stock in Europe which tends to be poorly insulated and energy inefficient.

“People don’t always know what they can do to improve the energy efficiency of their homes, or how much those improvements will cost and what savings they will offer.” 

In September, Just Group estimated in a report that over 55s were sitting on net property wealth of £4.4 trillion, turbo-charged by a pandemic windfall that added almost £1bn a day to their house prices between March 2020 and June 2022. 

The firm pointed to Office for National Statistics data that showed that over 55s owned more than £3.5 trillion of housing equity in March 2020, accounting for 65% of the UK’s total housing wealth. 

Since the start of the pandemic, average property prices have jumped by 23.1%, according to Land Registry House Price Index figures in June.
