The interim document of the Mortgage Rule Review (MRR) will be published before Christmas, according to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

The MRR is a broad FCA initiative to revamp the mortgage market, aiming to simplify the process of homebuying and getting a mortgage and encourage an efficient and competitive market.

The FCA was originally due to publish its interim MRR in Q2 2026, and today the regulator confirmed it would be here by Christmas.

Speaking at Mortgage Strategy’s MIT Live event in London, FCA director of intelligence and digital Ian Phoenix said: “The [interim] MRR will be published closer to Christmas.

“Look out for the [interim] report that’s coming later in the year.”

Phoenix added: “In the coming weeks, we have refreshed our survey with the Bank of England on AI in financial services. Keep an eye out for it.”
