The Boca Raton Museum of Art is presenting “Early Gold in the Kingdom of the Sun: Searching the Origins of Prehispanic Goldsmiths” on Sunday, October 31, 2021.  The event runs for an hour between 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the Boca Raton Innovation Campus (BRiC).

Recent discoveries in Huanchaco, a coastal site in the North Coast of Peru, have unveiled exquisite jewelry made of gold and gilded copper. Along with beads carved from semi-precious stones and shells gathered on the present-day Ecuadorian coastline, researchers are now “rethinking how trade and exchange played a role in early Andean metallurgy”.

University of Florida Assistant Professor Dr. Gabriel Prieto reveals early occurrences of gold artifacts in the Andes. For the first time in the US, Prieto presents the results of his own discoveries made during the last three years in one of the most interesting Pre-Hispanic cemeteries of the South American Pacific coast.
