Dustin Johnson Wins FedEx Cup

It was the evening before the final round of the PGA Championship and everything seemed to be aligning for Brooks Koepka to win an unprecedented third PGA Championship in a row. Brooks was just 2 shots off the lead and it appeared that the confidence was oozing. He even took a little jab at the other players he was battling at the top of the leaderboard, including Dustin Johnson.

What we didn't know at the time though, is just how different not just the final round of the PGA Championship would play out, but the next month or so of golf as well.

While Brooks came out the next day and shot a final round 74, quickly not just dropping down the leaderboard but off of TV altogether, it appeared that DJ used that jab by Brooks to put together one of the most dominant stretches of golf that we have seen in quite some time.

After his T2 finish at the PGA, Johnson arrived in Boston for THE NORTHER TRUST and proceeded to lap the entire field, shooting a ridiculous 30-under par for 4 rounds that featured a Friday 60 that at one point looked like it could have been a round in the mid-50s. DJ showed no signs of letting up the following week either, cruising to what appeared to be another victory until John Rahm drained a 60+ foot birdie bomb on the first playoff hole to take down the number one player in the world.

Despite the gutting defeat, Johnson still arrived at East Lake for the Tour Championship ranked #1 in the FedEx Cup and proceeded to go wire-to-wire to win the Tour Championship along with the $15 million FedEx Cup bonus.

Not only was that a dominant stretch by normal standards, but it is even more impressive when you consider it was just 2 months ago when Johnson showed up at the Memorial and failed to break 80 for 2 rounds and then shot a 78 in the opening round of the 3M Open before withdrawing from the event.

Johnson will now turn his sights to the US Open, which is just one week away where he is sure to be the betting favorite.
