New broker network Altura launches with plans to future-proof' brokers

A new broker network Altura Mortgage Finance has launched, which aims to “future-proof brokers at a time of radical change in the mortgage industry”.

The London-based group starts with eight broker firms under its umbrella, and plans to target “forward-thinking brokers who want to make the move from self-employed to running their own firms, at scale”.

It adds: “With vanilla residential mortgages increasingly vulnerable to automation, a key focus of the Altura network is to empower brokers to advise in areas many traditional networks do not allow, from non-regulated bridging and commercial finance to debt consolidation, foreign national and expat mortgages.

“As well as enabling brokers to diversify into specialist mortgages and free them from red tape, the network also has a strong community element and provides ongoing — and real-time — advice and mentorship via an always-on WhatsApp group.”

The business is run by managing director Rob Gill (pictured), who was a co-founder of broker Coreco Group, where he worked for nine years. He also spent seven years at Nomura as an equities trader.

The senior leadership team also includes operations director Francois Taljaard, director James Hughes and head of commercial & specialist lending Guy Nyirenda. The team spent much of this year setting up the business.

Thomas Group Financial Services, run by director and appointed representative Adam Thomas, is part of the network.

Thomas says: “Altura is a network that removes red tape, treats you like an adult and enables you to offer advice in every area of mortgage finance.

“On any given day, I could be working on debt consolidation, first-time buyer and expat mortgages, along with bridging finance and commercial deals.

“The WhatsApp community they’ve created is special and a great place to source intel and bounce ideas off other brokers in the network.

“I have no plans to become a directly authorised broker as they offer me the same level of flexibility and independence without the extra admin and cost.”

Gill adds: “Having set up and run a number of businesses in the past, our management team are keen to share our experiences and expertise with others seeking to do the same.

“Additionally, we aim to free brokers from the red tape that too often holds them back, empowering them to diversify into new areas, fast.

“Now more than ever, it’s vital that brokers future-proof their businesses and Altura’s whole model is built around precisely that.”

Last week, Property fintech OneDome also launched a broker network, which it said aims “to support brokers and firms at every stage of their growth”.
