The official start of Spring is this Saturday, March 21st.  The Spring Equinox occurs this Saturday and the event marks the astronomical first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. The weather is expected to be in the upper 70’s in northern Palm Beach County this weekend. A Perfect weekend to enjoy the outdoors and celebrate the new Spring season.

The March Equinox or the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere occurs when the sun crosses the equator line heading north. The event marks the start of the Spring season in the northern half of the globe. The Equinox is set to begin this Saturday, March 20th at 5:37 am, eastern time. The word equinox comes from a Latin word that happens when both day and night are nearly equal in length.

Here are some interesting facts about Spring that you might not haven known.

Spring almost always arrives on March 20th or March 21st but can sometimes be March 19th. The reason is the equinoxes and solstices do not always occur on the same day.

The first day of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere marks the first day of Fall in the Southern Hemisphere.  Spring in the Southern Hemisphere lasts from August until November.

Holidays that occur during Spring are Passover, Easter, April Fool’s Day, Earth Day, Arbor Day, Father’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, and Holi.

Before the 14th Century, Spring was called Lent. It was renamed to Spring because plants were springing up from the ground.

In the Spring, baby birds learn to sign but listening to other sounds.

The days get longer, flowers grow and bloom faster, and the weather gets warmer.
