Formally known as Whitehall, The Flagler Museum is one of the most famous landmarks and homes on Palm Beach Island. The grand estate features more than 100,000 square feet filled with some of the most important Palm Beach history and history about The Gilded Age.

The home belonged to Henry M Flagler, an American Industrialist and Founder of Standard Oil. The marvelous home was a gift to his wife Mary as a wedding gift. The home was commissioned by Flagler to Hastings and Carrere and was completed in 1902. Carrere and Hastings were also architects for other famous landmarks during the time, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, and the New York Public Library to name a few.

The elegant estate features white marble columns and a red barrel roof on the exterior overlooking the intracoastal waterway. The home also features a large central courtyard, two full stories plus an attic, a full basement, the original fence built I 1901, 10 antique clocks still working today, and more than 75 rooms.

When Henry Flagler passed away in 1913, the home was lived in by his wife Mary until she gifted the home to their niece in 1917 who sold the home to a group of investors. The grand estate was turned into a hotel that houses famous guests such as Walt Disney and other famous Politicians who visited the island. The hotel closed in 1959 and was restored back to its beauty by Flagler’s granddaughter that same year.

Today, the home is open to the public for tours and special events. The Flagler Museum features artwork, history, information, and antiques from during the Gilded Age.

The Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday 12 pm to 5 pm.
