Palm Beach County, bear in mind, Flag Day 2022 is observed on Tuesday, June 14th to honor and commemorate the adoption of the American flag which occurred on this day in 1777 by the Second Continental Congress. President Harry S. Truman designated the day as National Flag Day in 1949 with the red, white, and blue flag with thirteen stars. The United States Army also celebrates its birthday on this day. One year earlier the United States declared Independence from Great Britain with the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

The colors of our flag have meant different things to different people. Thomas Jefferson’s words “life, liberty, pursuit of happiness” as a focal point relating to the flag’s colors. Red stripes represented the blood shed by every man and woman who gave his or her “life” for this country. A more contemporary reference includes the victims of 9/11. The color white has often been synonymous with something good. The white color reference with our “liberties;” the good things epitomized by freedoms of religion, assembly, speech, and press and from fear. The stars in the blue background with points of light, average citizens who gave a slice of time volunteering on behalf of those less fortunate so that they might “pursue their happiness.”
