Almost three quarters (74%) of tenants in England are happy with their renting experience, according to new research from Pepper Money. Just 11% reported being unhappy in rental.
The research, based on a nationally representative survey of private tenants, revealed those in the South East and South West of England reporting the highest happiness levels.
Across England, 77% of tenants whose landlord lives within 40 miles of their rental property reported being happy with their experience. This drops to 71% for those with landlords who lives more than 50 miles away, suggesting a local landlord presence can help support stronger day-to-day renting experiences.
With the private rented sector facing increasing regulatory and financial pressures, according to Pepper, the findings provide a timely reminder of the value local landlords bring to tenants and communities alike.
Commenting on the survey, Pepper Money sales director Paul Adams said: “At a time when the UK is facing a chronic undersupply of housing, private landlords continue to play a vital role in bringing much-needed homes to the rental market.
“It is encouraging to see that most tenants report positive renting experiences, particularly where landlords remain closely involved with their properties. Our research shows that when landlords are engaged and responsive, tenants feel the benefit directly through well-maintained homes, quicker repairs and a greater sense of stability and trust, all of which help sustain a functioning rental sector.”
