Decadent French Dining in Palm Beach

La Goulue, located at 288 S County Rd, Palm Beach,  which opened in October, is the sister restaurant of the New York City  La Goulue eatery. Restaurateur Jean Denoyer points out that La Goulue is a restaurant both in New York and Palm Beach, but the origins are from France. As one would expect, the service was flawless, from arrival at valet parking to the beautiful open bar area and great selection of French wines right on through to dessert. La Goulue is perfect with a menu of divine classics such as a Gruyère, Parmesan, and white truffle souffle.  The souffle has been a favorite at the NYC location since 1972. The food itself is pure self-indulgence which is perfectly suited to a restaurant whose name translates to “the glutton.”

To step into La Goulue on Palm Beach is to travel back in time to Paris circa 1900. Banquette seating and Majorelle chandeliers are reminiscent of the style of that era. Large French doors invite in cool ocean breezes and evoke the memory of an authentic French bistro ambiance. The decor is beautiful, suggestive of a traditional Parisian bistro. Tables have good spacing due to Covid and all the staff wearing masks, keeping distance.

The food itself is pure Belle Époque decadence. Belle Époque translates to “Beautiful Era”.  It was a period described by optimism, regional peace, economic prosperity, colonial expansion, and technological, scientific, and cultural innovations. In this era of France’s cultural and artistic climate, particularly within Paris, the arts markedly blossomed, with various masterpieces and literature. The name of the Parisian eatery, La Goulue, translates to “the glutton” and is perfectly suited to a restaurant geared toward the Belle Époque era.
