The Cumberland has achieved B Corp certification after being recognised for its ethical business practices, social impact and transparent reporting.
The society achieved a verified score of 104.6 well above national and sector benchmarks, placing it above the UK company average and leads as the highest scoring building society.
It was also highly commended in its approach to governance, and objectives. It highlighted its commitment to supporting its colleagues, recognised for providing living wages, compensation policies, and benefits, as well as offering training programmes, career development and support for health and wellbeing.
The B Corp status also recognised the society’s efforts to aid customers with their financial needs as well as its charity work.
The Cumberland says it is now looking to continue its journey in developing a responsible business and progress its positive impact on the community around it.

It reflects our commitment to strong governance, ethical leadership and putting people first – values which have guided us for 175 years.”
