For brokers, a good business development manager is worth their weight in gold when it comes to getting a mortgage application across the line.
This is especially true for brokers in the complex and non-standard markets, where effective sales support and clear communication from lenders are a must.
Few things are more frustrating for brokers than submitting a case, only to face delays or unanswered queries because there’s no one available to help.
Good communication can mean different things to different brokers. For some, it’s the ability to pick up the phone and get a quick, clear answer, while for others it’s having easy access to accurate information online.
What most brokers would agree on, however, is the importance of having a trusted, reliable and consistent source of information.
Yet good support and communication are arguably some of the hardest things for lenders to get right.
This makes those lenders recognised in this year’s Mortgage Finance Gazette Rated for Service rankings for their sales support and communication all the more commendable.
The data shows that mainstream lenders performed particularly well in this area.
Those that have achieved Top Rated for Service status overall also delivered strong sales support and communication. In the Rated tier, meanwhile, three lenders — Clydesdale Bank, Metro Bank and Precise Mortgages — were commended by brokers.
There is a solid set of results from specialist lenders too, with all those that have achieved either Top Rated or Rated for Service overall earning the same distinction for their sales support and communication, except for one lender.
This has made way for Metro Bank to also receive Rated status for its sales support and communication in the specialist market.
There are impressive results for buy-to-let lenders also, with Newcastle Building Society and Precise Mortgages both receiving a Rated for Service accolade, highlighting their effective sales support and communication.
All Rated for Service data is accessed via the dashboard. To access the rankings data for each assessment area, simply select the Ranking button on the lender category of your choice. You can then re-arrange the data based upon the ranking for each assessment area to determine the best/worst-performing lender.
Factor analysis is also available for each lender category to enable benchmarking across a panel of lenders versus the average score for each assessment area. This can be filtered by broker type and case load, providing tailored benchmarks for individual brokers (max. of five lenders).
