One of the benefits of living in Florida is being able to hop in a boat and get out on the water and enjoy the sunshine and weather. Boating is a very popular activity for all ages in Florida. Any day of the week, dozens of boats out will be out on the water for hours enjoying the many benefits of living in the sunshine state.
Since 2010, the state of Florida requires that any person who wishes to operate a vessel of more than ten horsepower or more and is born after January 1st, 1988 must pass and complete a boater safety course. The course can either be done in person or online.
Florida does not have a “boating license” but a Boater Safety Identification Card, the card states that the course has been completed. Florida does not require a follow up or a renewal requirement, once the card is issued the card is valid for life. However, the state recommends boaters stay up to date and review the local boating rules and regulations.
The Boating Safety Courses range in price. Depending on location some classes are free, and other classes range from $15 dollars to $50 dollars. Once the course is completed and the exam is passed, will Temporary Boating Certificate will be issued following the course. The Temporary Boating Certificate can be used immediately, and your Boater Safety Education Identification Card will be mailed.
