The Financial Conduct Authority has launched a campaign to promote the reporting of financial wrongdoing from both customers and workers.

Accompanied by the tagline ‘In confidence, with confidence’, the campaign includes the publication of a raft of materials that have been designed for firms to share with employees and a digital toolkit web page.

The toolkit lays out the process of whistleblowing and addresses concerns about keeping people who go to the FCA with issues anonymous.

The FCA says that it looked at 1,153 whistleblower reports in 2019, which included allegations of money laundering, mis-selling and fitness and propriety concerns.

The regulator adds that it will be pushing this new campaign during its events.

FCA executive director of enforcement and market oversight Mark Steward says: “We want all whistleblowers to feel welcomed by us and to feel safe because of us.

“We listen to all whistleblowers and, if they shine a light on serious misconduct, we want to make sure we act responsibly.

“When whistleblowing works well it helps consumers, markets and firms and keeps everyone safe and that is our aim.”
