Nearly a third (31%) are for country houses and just 10% are for a place in the city.

The lender noted that the average price for a holiday home in April was £423,537.
Emma Graham, business development director at Hodge, said: “Applications for holiday let mortgages have risen across the board in the past year and it appears that people have an appetite for all types of properties – it’s not just places with big open spaces or a view of the sea, but it’s also city escapes that are also making the cut.
“Hodge is one of only a few lenders on the market who will lend to mortgage customers looking to use letting sites such as Airbnb.
“These sites are popular for those looking to book a city break and will help to boost rental yields for city holiday let homeowners.”
