The length of time it takes to complete a mortgage application is the UK’s biggest mortgage search term, says comparethemarket.com.

The comparison website assembled data from Google search trends between October 2019 and September 2020.

It reports that in total there were close to 21,000 searches querying this. The second-most looked for answer was how long a mortgage offer lasts for, at 17,480 annual searches.

The third most looked-for term was how to get a mortgage with bad credit, which was the target of 14,800 searches, followed by the UK’s internet users questioning what an interest-only mortgage was, with 14,360 searches.

Fifth place saw 14,250 instances of people asking what a lifetime mortgage is.

Widening the scope to general finance questions, the biggest search in the UK was the question of how to save money, which was searched for 146,100 times.

The question of how long a mortgage takes, the biggest mortgage search is placed at number 11 in the overall ranking, with the top 10 generally comprising personal finance questions.
