Yesterday, Leeds Building Society announced it had updated and improved its online application process for those who wish to temporarily defer mortgage repayments.

It comes as the Government extended the mortgage holiday scheme until the end of October, the details of which have now been confirmed by the FCA.

Nationwide announced it would be offering its members the option to defer repayments or make partial payments as part of its Home Support Package.

Members who are financially impacted by the outbreak can go online to take advantage of support and anyone who needs additional help will be able to speak to a member of staff.

Nationwide said customers would be directed to a payment calculator to ensure the future impact of their payment break was clearly understood.

It will also be contacting members who are coming to the end of their current payment break.

Buy-to-let

Meanwhile, the society revealed it would be extending mortgage payment breaks to buy-to-Let landlords before the end of June.

It is encouraging landlords to apply for the breaks if their tenants are struggling to pay rent due to Covid-19, and where possible to pass on the benefit.

Henry Jordan, Nationwide’s director of mortgages said: “Our Home Support Package is designed to help our members keep their homes.

“The unknown time frame of how long this impact will last has led us to halting repossessions linked to Covid-19 until the end of May 2021 to give our members as much reassurance as we can. All that we ask is that our members continue to engage with us so that we can agree with them the best way to help them.”
