Dudley Building Society has announced it will temporarily withdraw all mortgage products.

Products will be withdrawn from the society’s website on 19 August at 5pm.

This comes after the society has received a “continuously high volume of mortgage applications”.

In a notice, the lender says: “This increasing volume of applications has impacted our service levels, which our dedicated intermediary support team have been working to reduce.”

“To allow our dedicated team the ability to continue to effectively underwrite and assess each application received, we have made the decision to pause new business.”

The society’s commercial director Kieron Blackburn comments: “We regard this pause on new business as a temporary measure. As soon as we’re confident that we can return to providing the service that our partners expect we’ll return to the market.”

Earlier in August, various other lenders including Saffron Building Society, Coventry for Intermediaries and Cambridge Building Society also temporarily closed new business applications while they got on top of current volumes.

Speaking on the Lenders Live panel last week, Together sales director Sundeep Patel commented: “You can’t knock them for the decisions they make.”

“You have to put the consumer in the middle of everything. If service levels are out of control and not manageable, you have got to make calls and sometimes they are tough calls to make. In the long-term, it’s the right decision to make,” Patel added.
