Breast Cancer Awareness Month - Palm Beaches

October serves as an international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities. During this promotion, the objective is to increase awareness of the disease, encourage women to get their annual mammograms, and raise funds for research. The Florida Breast Cancer Foundation offers many resources to Palm Beach County women.

The American Cancer Society describes breast cancer as when cells in the breast begin to grow out of control. These cells usually form tumors that are often seen on a radiology test or felt as a lump(s). If the tumor is malignant or cancerous, the cells may grow into surrounding tissues and spread to other areas of the body. Fortunately, most lumps in the breasts are benign, which means they are not cancerous or life-threatening.

The risk of getting breast cancer grows and is primarily found in women aged 55 and older. Breast cancer affects women and men. It is the most common cancer among women in the United States, aside from skin cancer. Thanks to early detection and improvements in treatment, millions of women have survived breast cancer. It is essential to take precautionary measures to detect cancer early and encourage others to do the same.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society are great places to learn how you can join the fight against breast cancer.
